New York on the verge............

New York City has some of the most avid fans in the nation yet they have not tasted a string of championships these recent years other than the Giants winning in Super Bowl XLII. However, the way things are shaping up in the four major sports, New York City can be the mecca for sports championships. First in baseball they have the NY Yankees and Mets, which are a clear favorite to win their perspective divisions and even their leagues. The Yankees are the Yankees and they will do anything and everything to win a championship and that attitude seems to have carried over to the Mets these past few years. The Mets are tired of being in the Yankees shadow and want to taste some of the success that the Yankees have had. The competition to take fans and media has seem to be a good rivalry since they are making each other better in the end. Both teams are not even on the verge to win a championship they are clear cut favorites.
In football the same could be said about the NY Giants and Jets. The Giants have come off one of the most memorable championships and brought a little life into the city. The Jets quickly made moves to contend in the league right after the Giants' Super Bowl victory. They too want to attract fans and media and with the signing of Brett Favre they got both! The Giants will continue to be contenders in the NFC East and the Jets seem to be moving in the right direction with the siging of their new head coach. Both teams are on the verge of wining championships!
The NY Rangers have the city on lock because the Islanders sure don't. The only competition they Rangers are facing is from their cross state rival the NJ Devils. The NY Rangers continue to make the playoffs year after year. They are one or two players away from becoming dominant every year. They have a great goaltender to build around.
Now come the NY Knicks! They are the least favorites and are by far the furthest away from winning a championship. However they are taking the right steps to becoming a powerhouse in the East once again. With the acquisition of D'Antoni and Walsh they have dramatically improve this season despite all the adversity. They have positioned the team to clearly make a move for two superstar players in the 2010 free agency. The Knicks are definitely on the verge to make the playoffs nothing about a championship yet.
The success of each of New York's sports franchises depends on each other. Players in the free agency market as well as drafted players can all look forward to playing in NYC. The best hitter available in Teixeira wanted to come to the Yankees, the best closer wanted to come to the Mets, a top tier coach wanted to come to the Jets, and a great general manager and coach wanted to come to the Knicks. All we can do now is wait to become the Mecca for Sports!

T.O. - You're in Time Out!!

Are the Cowboys seriously thinking about releasing one of the top wide receivers in the league? T.O. has had over 1,000 yards receiving for the past three years with a combined 28 touchdowns while at Dallas and they are contemplating a release to improve team chemistry? As much as T.O. is a problem on or off the field there is no denying the man's abilities and there is no doubt that he comes to play every game. It is unfortunate that a player with so much talent also has as much ego. It would be nice if T.O. had a Jerry Rice, Marvin Harrison, Torry Holt type of personality but he doesn't. If T.O. is on your team he comes with baggage to say the least. In this instance the positives out-weight the negatives depending on the team that he is on. Look at Randy Moss for instance, who was know for his antics and problems within the team, however with the right coach to discipline him, we have not heard a peep from him these past two seasons. (Don't you think old Randy would've have been disgruntled with Matt Cassel as his QB on any other team with a different coach.....). T.O. would be a different receiver if Belicheat were coaching him with out a doubt. That is all we need is for him to be released and end up in New England (can you imagine Tom Brady, Randy Moss and Terrell Owens...wow let me wake up from that horrible nightmare). If the Cowboys dare to release T.O. and all these fans that claim they would never take him better think twice about what they are saying. T.O. can easily improve a team and always comes to play!!
