Could the Yankees vs. Red Sox still be considered a rivalry? The Yankees won the series in 2007 8-7 but the Red Sox won the Championship which is obviously more important. In 2008 the series was tied 9-9 but it was the Red Sox that made it to the ALCS and the Yankees didn't even make the playoffs. And this year well let's just say that the Red Sox have 6 wins and the Yankees 0....Wouldn't it be ironic if Wang (which had a 34.50 ERA at one point) gets the first win versus the Red Sox.
It falls true to every sport that a rivalry is not present unless both teams are successful!
